One of the garments I have been working on for the past couple weeks. Finally done! It will be on display in the Brant Gallery where I work as a Gallery assistant.
My Statement.
“The tree leggings are something that I had come up with in my Visual Language class last semester. It relates to my love and growing interest for armor, both in a literal & metaphorical sense. A concept that I am always working on, because it is so personal to me; but it also hits the idea of nature being a type of armor for us. Because humans much like nature are so vulnerable & feeble, the stress of helping each other stay safe is an important factor. We are nothing without nature, and nature is nothing without us, we are connected to it, and in turn, nature is connected to us.”

Also fun fact, all the materials I used to make this was recycled materials.

As requested, a bigger view of my icon.
This is a piece I did for my Form Study class, I had to create a suit of armor to protect us from our fears.
I took the project and this is what I created! A bird skull helmet, along with a “heart” piece & then spiked armor plates for my arms & legs!

The Personal Armor I made for my Form Study class.
I had to wear it and present it in front of the entire class and oh goodness it was frightening.

Did a little altering to my solid black leggings by adding a falling stream of pearls.
What am I doing with my goddamn life.

Inspired by the final piece of the late Alexander Lee McQueen’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection “Angels & Demons”. It is another one of my absolute favorite collections. The amount of details in each piece is so over whelming and just breathtakingly beautiful. The mixture of the Dark Ages & the modern, the hand work, all of it..just perfection.

I hand painted each of the feathers on my vest, and then embroidered a little McQ out of gold thread. ( My first time embroidering so I am rather pleased with how it came out )

The vest I embellished was an old thing, some I had since high school, so I brought it back to life.

I am also working on making a coat out of hand painted golden feathers, all that is left is the back, I just haven’t gotten around to getting more feathers.

My first tribute to the late & great designer. - http://societycottontail.tumblr.com/post/12226456107

Halloween with McQueen.

Inspired & driven by one of my absolute favorites collections by the late & great Alexander Lee McQueen, Fall/Winter 2008 “The Girl Who Lived in the Tree”, for Halloween this year I replicated the final piece to this collection as my tribute to the late designer.

He has & had been a constant source of inspiration for me when it comes not only to the fashion & my ideas/concepts of it, but also in the arts. He, in my imagination at least…is someone that I imagine to be a person I could relate to on many subjects.

What struck me most about this particular collection was the story, the idea of it all, & the clothes. The garments were just so impeccable and beautiful crafted as per usual. The runway show took me to another land of wonder and magic, telling a story with each passing piece. Then. The final, the long red satin cape, its train trailing behind. The perfect ending.

My Highness, may you find your piece.
